Producing double sided business cards with the OKI C3450 and OKI Template Manager 2006
OKI Template Manager allows you to create and print your own double sided business cards, as you need them. You can use as many or as few colours as you like, with little price implication. There are no minimum orders you can print them as you need them so there is no upfront outlay. And you can set up one template for several members of staff, so you only have to create one design which you can re-use over and over again. Alternatively, you can change the design as you need perhaps to highlight a new business venture, or to put across a particular message for a specific event.
This guide uses the Oki Pre-Cut Cards (product number 09450239). We will be designing an Oki Online business card, but you can tailor the the logo and details to your own business.
The front and the back of the business cards are designed on seperate templates. Begin by selecting the 'Three Fives Media' section in Oki Template Manager. Then select the 'Front for Double Sided Business Cards 09450239' template.
Your document should open on the Master Design page. If your page does not look like the image below, select the 'Master Design' tab:
Anything entered onto this page will appear on all of the business cards. Using this template, each page you print will contain 10 business cards. To view the full sheet of business cards, select the 'Full Page' tab.
If you wish to enter something onto a particular business card, select the 'Full Page' tab before entering your data. In this guide all of your design work will be done on the Master Design page, so now select the 'Master Design' tab.
You will find the Palettes essential while designing your business cards. The lower Palette, (the Shapes Palette) provides various pre-drawn shapes which can be inserted into your business cards. The upper Palette, (the Properties Palette), is used to change the properties of objects, such as the font style of text or the colour of a shape.
If the Palettes are not visible, click 'View', and then 'Show Palettes'.
First we will insert a logo. To insert an image from file, click 'Insert', and then 'Picture...'
Locate the image in the popup box, and then click 'Open'.
Resize the logo if you wish with the square green tabs.
Position it in the centre top of the page:
Now it is time to insert some text. Don't forget that this text is editable, so a single business card template, for example with a space marked 'Your name here', could be edited to produce business cards for many employees. To insert standard text, click the 'T' on the Toolbar, and then drag out a box on your page.
Alternatively, click 'Insert', and then 'Text Box'.
The size of the box can be adjusted after creation by dragging the small green square tabs at the sides of the box. The green circular tab can be used to rotate the text box. If you have deselected and wish to add to or edit the text, move the mouse pointer over the text box, and then click when the pointer becomes a capital 'I'. In this first text box, type your name. Position this text box a little below the centre of the page, as in the image below:
I have set this piece of text to Tahoma, size 16. To adjust text properties such as font, size, alignment or colour, use the Properties Palette. Simply select the piece of text you wish to edit. Then you can change the font and size by clicking the downward arrows located to the right hand side of the font and size boxes:
Next we will add a little information about the business. Insert another text box, and in it type "Specialists in Oki Printing Solutions". Make this text Tahoma, size 11, and click the capital 'B' on the Properties Palette to embolden the text:
Place the text just below the logo.
The front of your double sided business card design is now finished, and should look something like:
Save this design.
Click 'File', then 'Start from a New Template...' Select the 'Three Fives Media' section in Oki Template Manager. Then select the 'Back for Double Sided Business Cards 09450239' template.
Create 4 text boxes, containing:
Set pieces 1, 2, and 3 to Tahoma, size 12, and click the button circled below to centre the text:
Set piece 4 (the mailing address) to Tahoma, size 9, and centre it:
Arrange these 4 text boxes down the centre of the page, as below:
The design is now finished.
When you are satisfied with your business cards, click on the Print button to display the
print driver dialogue box. This allows you to choose the printer you want to use, and will
give you any special instructions required by that printer (e.g. the C5000 series manual
You can now print as many or as few business cards as you like, tailored individually to the staff members who need them most.
Customising one business card design for multiple employees
The ability to customise a single design, and thus produce pages of cards as needed, is an excellent feature of Template Manager. As stated above, a text box can be edited by moving the mouse pointer over the box, and then clicking when the pointer becomes a capital 'I'. Therefore, you can create a single design with a text box saying, for example, 'Your name here'. This can then be edited for each employee name.
